Welcome to the
Community Of Injured Workers in Canada
The Community of Injured Workers in Canada’s (CIWC’s) is an internet site with forums, that is primarily dedicated to assisting long term Injured Workers (IWs), and their families, who have problems with WCBs, by letting them get and exchange information, share experiences, ideas and opinions. Part of that commitment is to make these forums a great place to meet and interact with other IWs in Canada and around the world.
To help make the forums an effective and friendly place to come to, you must agree to abide by our Code of Conduct (also referred to as Rules or Guidelines). Your commitment to these guidelines in all of your site activities will help ensure a positive experience for all participants.
There may be some sections of our forums that will have extra rules, they will be highlighted at the top of that forum.
After you register and log into The Community of Injured Workers Forums, you can fill out a detailed profile. It is your responsibility to present clean and accurate information. Any information we deem inaccurate or vulgar will be removed.
Please note that with each post, your IP address is recorded, in the event that you need to be banned from The Community Of Injured Workers Forums or your ISP contacted. This will only happen in the event of a major violation of this agreement.
Further to this it is your duty to remain updated with regards to posted rules of forum conduct. These are posted publicly on the main page of the forums.
Section One
If you are an employee of any workers compensation
board, workers insurance company, or submit information to such
organizations or businesses you are required to advise the
administration of this website, before you may register as a member, or
use any information on this website as a guest. This is also inclusive
of any insurance company, or subcontractor to an insurance company or
workers compensation board or entity of such nature.
If you register as a member without doing so you are in breach of trust.
If you use any information on this website without written consent of
its owner, you are in breach of copyright law.
Section Two
(This rule is here to protect the site owner from
being responsible for what you or others do on our forums. This is the
standard wording in almost every online forum, but is required to be
here.)
Note that it is impossible for us to confirm the validity of
posts on The Community of Injured
Workers Forum. Please remember that we do not actively monitor
the posted messages and are not responsible for their content. We do not
warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any information
presented. The messages express the views of the author, not necessarily
the views of The Community of Injured Workers Forums. Anyone who feels
that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to notify an
administrator of this forum immediately. We retain the right to remove
objectionable content, within a reasonable time frame, if we determine
that removal is necessary. This is a manual process, however, so please
realize that we may not be able to remove or edit particular messages
immediately. This policy goes for member profile information as well.
You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages, and you
agree to indemnify and hold harmless this forum, and any related
websites to this forum. We at The Community Of Injured Workers Forums
also reserve the right to reveal your identity (or any information we
have about you) in the event of a court order or legal action arising
from any information posted by you.
Section Three
(this is to protect you and other members)
You have the ability, as you register, to choose your username. We
advise that you keep the name appropriate. With this user account you
are about to register, you agree to never give your password out to
another member, for your protection and for validity reasons. You also
agree to NEVER use another member's account to post messages or browse
this forum.
Section Four
(This
covers rules of behavior to keep our forums civil)
Forum Etiquette
2) Remember always that injured workers are under a lot of stress, Members are permitted to disagree with the advice/suggestion(s) provided by another member, but not in a personal way. All advice/suggestion/criticism must be CONSTRUCTIVE or based on your experience
As indicated above, this site’s primary purpose is to provide information and to help IWs, who are experiencing problems with WCB. Considering that condescending posts, criticism or intimidation of members will not be tolerated, members who find such posts should contact site Administrators, so that Admin can take appropriate action.
(Note: “critical” does not mean “criticism”; it means focusing on the arguments and their implications (not just the facts about an issue), and thinking analytically about the issues that are raised by the readings. In other words, read with a view to understanding the way an author has approached and presented an issue or topic, so that you can also articulate whether, or why, you agree or disagree.)
3) SHOUTING is permitted when emphasizing, but SHOUTING should not dominate a post. That includes a post the is all or mostly in bold or Large print
4) We reserve the right to remove content that advocates or encourages expressions of violence, bigotry, racism, hatred, obscenity or a commercial activity. Banning may be instituted for such activity.
5) Under no circumstances are the forums to be used for any form of dispute between members, this includes between members and administration. Members who have personal disagreement(s) with other members of this forum should try to resolve their issues by private messages or emails, and not take personalities to any of the forums.
6) Unsolicited correspondence from members who want you to move to another website should immediately be reported to the forums administration. Anyone trying to entice you into divulging confidential information should also be reported. All solicitation under the pretext of being an injured workers advocate should also be reported. (This is for the protection of all the forums members)
7) Bans, and suspensions are under review. We will update this at a later date and it will be posted under the forum announcements.
8) Anyone using (illicit) proxy servers will also be banned without notice. Proxy servers are used to hide their IP identity. Most often because they have something sinister to hide.
9) RESPECT the original Poster of a topic, by not breaking the continuity of a thread by changing the main topic. If you wish to comment on a side issue, start a new thread.
10) Members may include their website or Email address (see J) or Company name or Organization; however they must be related to helping injured workers. It must be only in the profile and not in any portion of your posts in forums. No self-promotion will be permitted within posts on the forum.
11) Remember that if you ask for private advice it comes with the understanding that you know that person cannot be held responsible for telling you the truth.
12) Members must get permission from the author when divulging contents of emails / private messages on these forums.
13) No member should sign any letters on behalf of of this website. It is recommended that members approach not-for profit organizations such as the Canadian Injured Worker Society (CIWS) for such actions. http://www.ciws.ca
14) Members may not intentionally: misrepresent themselves; or provide misleading information. All members posting, should include in their profile, their gender and location the province they reside in, or if applicable, the country they are posting from, (if the member resides outside of Canada). However, non-posting members & members only asking for advice in their posts do not have to declare gender or location, as they will not be confusing anyone in regards to the information they are posting. We retain the right to amend posting members profiles, and, or take action against those who post false information.
15) We reserve the right to remove Registrations of members, who never made any posts. Before doings so we will try to contact that person.
16) Indiscriminate deleting (editing-out contents) of posts is not permitted. From experience we know this happens. This makes a mess out of the conversations that took place, and everyone suffers from it. Our new solution is a website wide ban on the offender. They will no longer be able to see the website in its entirety. This means you would be banned from the entire website, you would not have the ability to even see the main site or forums. Please Note that in dealing with problem offenders we can if necessary block all public access computers as well if we deem it necessary. Likewise we can block an entire community if the need calls for it.
16) Respect the Law
We do NOT allow behavior or content related to illegal activities. You cannot use this site to publish, post, distribute, or disseminate defamatory, infringing, obscene, or other unlawful material or discussion. This includes, but is not limited to, child pornography, bestiality, incest, illegal drugs, software piracy, and harassment. You may also NOT use these forums for the purpose of linking to external sites that violate this code of conduct.
You the poster are responsible for any use of uploaded files or posted messages that contain photos, music, software or other material protected by intellectual property laws, rights of privacy or publicity, or any other applicable law.
We will do our best to insure this does not happen, however we can not be aware of all instances, so it must be reported to us, and we must have reasonable time to remove it.
