Ontario-wide protest rallies behind injured workers

A Thunder Bay group is calling on Ontario to reduce the poverty of injured workers.

As part of a province-wide day of action, about a dozen injured workers and supporters rallied at MPP Michael Gravelle's office Thursday, stating that something needs to be done to help people who have been injured on the job.

Janet Paterson, president of the Thunder Bay and District Injured Workers' Support Group, said workers compensation is not rising alongside the cost of living. She also said that this is putting many of the injured workers, who used to make a good living, into poverty.

Paterson said they want to see full cost-of-living protection for these workers and an exemption from Bill 14, which keeps the group from providing free representation for workers having trouble with their claims.

The group didn't get the chance to discuss the issues with Gravelle, as he was out of town at the time of the rally.
